HIP PAIN IS LIMITING YOUR PERFORMANCE.
VALEN REHAB AND PERFORMANCE CAN HELP.

It started as stiffness after long practices. Then a pinch in the front of the hip when squatting or sprinting. Now it is affecting the game. Rotational ability is reduced, power is lost, and explosive movements are painful.

Hip pain in athletes is frustrating because it affects running, cutting, squatting, throwing, and swinging. The hip is the foundation of athletic movement, and when it is not functioning correctly, the entire body compensates.

Valen Rehab and Performance sees hip pain in athletes across many sports, with a flagship specialty in baseball. The evaluation is used to understand the problem and build a plan toward the sport demands the athlete needs to regain at the North Phoenix clinic.

WHY VALEN

HOW VALEN WORKS

HIP STRENGTH TESTING

Valen measures hip flexion, abduction, adduction, and rotation strength with VALD DynaMo or handheld dynamometers when they answer a useful question. Deficits are measured and progress is tracked in real numbers.

MOVEMENT PATTERN ANALYSIS

Valen assesses how the hip moves during sport-specific tasks such as squatting, lunging, cutting, and rotating to find movement patterns that cause overload.

MANUAL THERAPY AND LOADING

Sessions combine hands-on joint mobilization and soft tissue work with progressive strengthening.

SPORT-SPECIFIC REHAB

The hip needs to handle the specific demands of the sport. Valen builds programs around the rotational, cutting, or impact forces the sport requires.

KINETIC CHAIN INTEGRATION

Hip pain often causes compensations in the knee, lower back, and the shoulder. Valen addresses the full chain.

CONSERVATIVE FIRST

Many hip conditions respond to rehab. Valen exhausts conservative options before recommending surgical consultation.

THE PROCESS

WHAT WORKING TOGETHER LOOKS LIKE

01

COMPREHENSIVE HIP EVALUATION

A full-hour assessment of hip joint mobility, strength, and movement patterns. Valen identifies the specific structures involved, tests the baseline, and builds a plan.

02

RESTORE AND STRENGTHEN

Progressive rehab combining manual therapy for joint mobility, targeted strengthening for hip stabilizers and prime movers, and movement pattern retraining.

03

RETURN TO SPORT

Sport-specific loading, agility work, and progressive return to full activity.

ATHLETE EXPERIENCES

WHAT ATHLETES SAY

"You're not treated like just another checklist here. Dr. Barrett builds a plan around you, your goals, and where you are in the process. I wish I had learned sooner that you don't have to wait until you're injured to get help. After barely being able to walk without pain, I'm now hitting PRs in the gym and prepping for another season of racing."

JERAMIE GOODWIN

"Keagan is awesome to work with. He's incredibly knowledgeable, and he helped get me back on track after dealing with some nagging injuries while training for a marathon. He takes the time to understand your goals, explains the 'why' behind everything, and builds a plan that actually makes sense for your body and lifestyle."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What causes hip pain in athletes?

Hip pain in athletes is commonly caused by femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), hip labral tears, hip flexor tendinopathy, adductor strains, stress fractures, or athletic pubalgia. The hip joint handles significant forces during running, cutting, squatting, and rotational movements. The specific cause depends on the sport, position, and movement patterns.

Can hip impingement be treated without surgery?

Many athletes with hip impingement (FAI) respond to conservative rehab. The goal is to improve hip joint mobility, strengthen the muscles around the hip, modify activities that aggravate the impingement, and optimize movement patterns. Surgery is considered when conservative treatment fails after a period of dedicated rehab.

How do I know if my hip pain needs professional evaluation?

Signs that hip pain needs professional evaluation include pain that persists for more than 2 weeks, pain that limits the ability to train or compete, catching or clicking in the hip joint, groin pain that worsens with activity, pain that wakes the athlete at night, or pain that does not improve with rest. Hip pain in a young athlete should be evaluated promptly.

How long does hip pain rehab take for athletes?

Recovery timelines depend on the specific injury and the athlete's response to rehab. Hip flexor tendinopathy requires a period of progressive loading. Hip impingement rehab involves progressive strengthening and mobility work. Post-surgical hip labral repair recovery requires several months before return to sport. Valen Rehab and Performance uses objective strength testing and movement assessments to determine when an athlete is ready to return to full activity.

Why is hip mobility important for throwing athletes?

The hip is the engine of the throwing motion. During throwing, the lead hip must internally rotate to allow the trunk to rotate and transfer energy up the kinetic chain. If the hip lacks adequate mobility, the body compensates by overloading the shoulder, elbow, or lower back. Restoring hip mobility is often a critical component of arm injury rehab.

Is the free consultation a full clinical evaluation?

No. The free consultation is a 15-minute discovery call to discuss the injury and determine if Valen Rehab and Performance is the right fit. It is not the separate 60-minute clinical evaluation.
